Blog #7; Who Wears Short Shorts?

Throughout the years, we have all learned less is more. So why not apply this saying with clothing? For 2010, the new trend for bottoms has been hot pants and boy shorts. Hem lines seem to be getting shorter each generation and generally accepted by the public.
Maybe lingerie is the fashion fad? Because to me, I wouldn't even think this would be considered clothing to wear out, it looks more like a diaper. Way back in 2007, these bottoms were mainly worn to the gym or under dresses and skirts. But recently, celebrities have been spotted wearing them on the streets.
But I suppose if you're somebody who wants to stick with the trends and learn how to rock this look, then keep reading.
Look for hemlines that curve up the outer thigh to keep things decent and not expose yourself to the world. If you're thinking of wearing this style to winter - which is crazy, but some might want to - pair them with tights or stockings with a pattern to mix things up and keep you warm! Find a high waisted pair to elongate your legs and make them look leaner. Throw on a blazer or bomber jacket to keep the top covered so it would balance the amount of skin show below. And finally, maybe wear a loose blouse so you don't look like your body is squeezed from head to toe.
And that's it! Have fun and good luck. Remember the rules and you'll be fine. Ciao!

Blog #6; Fall Shoe Trend

Hello people! Since fall is approaching, I decided to do a blog post all about shoes for the season. Fall is a great season for fashion because you can pull off so much. All of the colors are deep and chic, so the fashion is insanely gorgeous. There are so many different types of shoes for fall as well. You can rock boots, heels, moccasins, and so much more. Let's get started!

Many of you probably noticed how popular the color purple was last season. Fortunately for all of you purple lovers, we will be seeing a lot more of it this year as well. Here are a few examples of fun, plum shoes.

I know most of you aren't a big fan of Uggs, but trust me, these are adorable! Okay, let's talk about some boot trends that you are going to see on the streets this year. Ankle boots and over the knee boots are going to be very popular for fall! Anything suede or leather is great. Also, boots with some embellishments like zippers are going to be very popular.
Since dark reds, navys, and blacks are in style , the heels this season are hotter than ever. This year, classic stilettos are kicking the curb, and funky heels are stepping in. Try something with studs or fringe; both are very in this year. What's also in is the little curve in heels. The slight curve in structure gives the classic heel a twist!

And last, but certainly not least - moccasins!  I am a huge fan of this style of shoe because I love to feel comfortable! You can try classic moccasins like the ones in the first picture below or you can show of in ones with embellishments. Choose ones with fringes or decorations for a more earthy feel. These really are the perfect everyday shoes!

Blog #5; Button Up.

Forget the grungy, layered flannel, and put away your baggy, boyfriend shirts. Fashion has taken a swing in the other direction, getting a more refined, sophisticated look. In a school where a strict dress code is required, I have heard a lot of complaints from many students about how we are supposed to dress - especially from the ladies. Many girls think that the collar and polo style is just for boys, but little do they know that look is carrying its way into the fall trend style.

How to wear them:
The key to the buttoned-up look is that it should appear put together. But don't forget: this is a time where over the knee boots and see through tops become fashion trends that leave the catwalk where everything is dramatic and make its to the simple streets. To balance the look out and make it appear more feminine and girly, try pairing it with some shorts or a skirt.

If you'd like to keep things modest you can try a crisp buttoned-up shirt with tailored high-waisted slacks for sophisticated minimalism. As for the cut of the shirt, the buttoned collar can work with sleeveless, short or long sleeved shirts. And be sure not to forget about the ever-so-popular shirt dress! For accessories, try to avoid ties! Your best bet is to add a necklace, especially the layered statement pieces or you can also add a brooch or pin to add some pizzaz.

Blog #4; Hairodynamic.

The hairstyle trends of 2010 will feature a lot of new looks: there are the new hair trend heavily influenced by the recent  catwalks, and there are evolutions of last year's hair trends. Last year, the milkmaid braid was very popular and now it is the plaited and braided hair. This relaxed hairstyle is perfect for Fall and maybe even winter!
As always, there is an up-do style that will be widely popular. And this season, it has to be the chignons and hair twist. Originating from the French "chignon du cou", which means "nape of the neck", a chignon is an elegant low bun or twist that sits at the back of the neck. Keep in mind, this style is not to look overstyled! It's purpose is to look easy, natural and neat.
The last look is of course, the ever-popular, top bun. Almost every girl wore this look, but now it has come with a more playful look. It can be styled in a sleek, neat way or a messy one like the picture shown.

Blog #3; Just For Fun.

Honestly, this post shouldn't be on my blog, but I have decided to add it to lighten up my page from the other boring posts.
I know Halloween is a long time from now, but it's not too early to have an idea for your next costume I suppose! While these may not be the most creative, they sure are funny to me. So why not have fun and rock these costumes? If you want to get your hands on one, click here.

So I decided to change things up and post a segment on something more focusing on art. Sculptor Dalton Ghetti can turn any ordinary #2 pencil into a piece of art! He uses a magnifying glass and tools like razor blades and needles to create delicate little figures - from a tiny, jagged handsaw to a figure of Elvis in shades

Blog #2; Fall 2010 Trends.

With Spring behind us it's time to look forward to the cooler weather, the fashion it will bring, and the pact it will have on next year. Finally, Autumn / Fall 2010 fashion trends are here! With the new season comes a lot of new looks and, for those that aren't new, new takes on established fashion trends.
Military fashion as a trend is nothing new. In fact, I believe this became popular back in 2008 or 2009. But while fashion trends tend to burn out within a few years, the women's military fashion trend isn't going anywhere, but is merely evolving.  Obviously this trend is inspired by the military uniforms of the 20th century and is focuses on the colors green, tan, and navy. Aviator boots and coats with a collar are a must to achieve this look!

Along with the black pencil skirt and white tee, a staple you should have in your closet is definitely a camel coat. It seems as though fashion has shifted its focus from blacks and grays to the camel coat. This really is the perfect layering piece for the cold days we're about to face. Remember, choose the coat that is right for you. Taller women should go for the ones that hit above their knee or shorter. Petite women should stay away from that and let the coat hit right where their hip is to elongate their legs.

Blog #1; What is Fashion?

While many may think fashion is deeply superficial, it is something we all deal with everyday. There are a lot of people who say they don't care about what they wear, but they don't realize that the things they choose to wear says a lot about them and their current mood. Of course the more obvious reasons we may wear what we do are because of the weather, religious expression, identification, and for attraction.

I remember in my last post I put up a quote that said fashion fades, but style is forever and I think I should expand on what that means. A fashion is a style of clothing deemed popular by most people within a country that lasts about 1-3 years. As fashion that comes and goes is known as a Fad. Style is classic. It is your own and is about individualism and self-expression.

Introduction.

"Fashion fades, only style remains the same." These wise words were said by the famous French designer Coco Chanel who has made an enormous contribution in the styling industry. Hi, I'm Alyssa Simon and I have had a lot of interest in the fashion world ever since I was small. In this blog I will blog about different subjects from trends of the season to interior designing to artworks!
